The Internet is a system of computers connected all over the world via phone lines, cable lines, and now wireless connections.
Every computer has an address, just like your home. This address is called an Internet Postal address -- otherwise called an I.P. address. With this address, you can communicate with any other computer on the Internet.
There is a standard format for an address (or Uniform Resource Locator - URL). URL is an acronym which not used too frequently. Most people ask, "What's the address?" They could say... "What's the URL?"
ISP is another acronym meaning Internet Service Provider. An ISP is like a toll booth that takes your money for traveling on a road.
When your computer receives a message, it comes in http:// form. That is, hypertext transfer protocol. That's just a fancy way of telling your computer, "here comes information over the internet."
The internet is full of secret codes, (acronyms) which are just abbreviations.
Here are some secret codes. See if you can guess what they mean.
